I love these flowers that I can’t grow here in Texas. Too hot and dry. It is going to be 95 today, breaking a new heat record!
"Hill Country Oaks" by Ann McCann 16 X 20" Oil
These live oak trees were on property at the resort we stayed at in Fredericksburg, TX. I think I liked the shadows as much as the mighty trees.
"Gummelt House Portrait" by Ann McCann 11 X 14" Watercolor
Our longtime neighbors are moving out of this wonderful old house from the early 1900s. I was asked to paint a portrait of it as a gift for them. I really hope it doesn’t get knocked down!
"Bleeding Hearts" by Ann McCann 12 X 12" Watercolor
These lovely flowers are perfect for Valentine’s Day. Enjoy the day!

The Monarch is the state butterfly of Texas, and clouds of them migrate thru Dallas every fall. Here a butterfly perches on blue bachelor buttons,

"Fields of Gold" by Ann McCann 16 X 20" Oil
These are the wildflower fields of Connemara Preserve in Plano, Texas where I painted last Memorial Day. The ladies seated in the back are also painting. The fields were filled with yellow coneflowers, violet/white basket flowers and others. It was so lovely it was dreamlike.
Anemones & Almonds by Ann McCann 18 X 24" Oil
We went on a wildflower tour of Israel last spring and visited this almond orchard in bloom. Also, the fields were full of red anemones. They look very much like poppies but have a white center. Gorgeous day!
"Red Hot Amaryllis" by Ann McCann 12 x 16" Watercolor
Watercolors do not need to be pastel and delicate. I chose to get these flowers as red as possible. They look like they would be hot to the touch!

"Amaryllis Gemini" by Ann McCann 9 X 12" Watercolor
I tried to get looser/ more imaginative with my interpretation of amaryllis blossoms. I used some highly pigmented watercolor pencils I bought myself for Christmas for the line work. This is my creation.
Another Amaryllis Painting by Ann McCann 12 X 16" Oil
I decided to do a larger amaryllis painting. It is not done yet. I am stuck at home in a Dallas cold/snow storm called Dallaska 24. It is 12 degrees outside with snow!
Painting Amaryllis in the Studio
Who doesn’t love red!!
"Lady Goldfinch in Waiting" by Ann McCann 12 x 24" Oil
I worked on this painting some more, adding darker values. Now the male finch really stands out. The small touches of gold in the underpainting also pop! The story here is this pair of finches came to our feeder this summer every day while we were on vacation. He was always eating and she was always waiting!
