Here’s another one of my paintings that I got to see in place at a collector’s home in Michigan. This is my home in Dallas. Somehow I made it look like a cottage from Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. My husband and daughter got mad at me for selling it!
"Freighter on Lake Michigan" by Ann McCann 12 X 16" Oil
This is a commission I did for a couple who owned a cottage on Lake Michigan for 20 years. When they finally sold it, they needed a painting to remind them of the many sunsets they watched there. There is a freighter with an active smoke stack in the distance. I got to see it hanging in their Ann Arbor home last week.
"Pink Trio in Vase" by Ann McCann 8 X 10" Watercolor
Loose roses are a challenge, but I love them. There are so many ways to paint them.
"The Guardian" by Ann McCann 12 X 16" Oil
This Hopper- like building is actually the old lifeguard House at Race Point Beach outside Provincetown, MA. It has always fascinated me standing high above the beach and ocean. I wonder if lifeguards watched the beach from the lookout window at the top. We go there to watch the whales spouting at sunset. Edward Hopper used to summer at the Cape and painted many of these old buildings.

" Pink Geraniums" by Ann McCann 12 X 16" Watercolor
My finished painting is above. The initial study I did is below. !I like them both though they feel different.
"Who Doesn't Love Poppies" by Ann McCann 8 X 10" Watercolor
When it is 104 degrees outside, painting watercolor flowers is the way to spend the day!
"Ann's Lace" by Ann McCann 8 X 10" Oil
My three week vacation in New England is over, and so is the cool weather we enjoyed there. Now we are back to the blazing heat in Dallas. The field next to our house in Connecticut is filled with wild flowers, Queen Anne’s Lace being one of them. I decided to heighten the intensity of the colors!
"Daylily Garden" by Ann McCann 9 X 12" Oil
This was the wonderful garden at our Cape Cod rental house. Besides the daylilies, which are everywhere in New England now, there was a lace cap hydrangea in the left corner. Rabbits visited every day.
"Roses After Rain" by Ann McCann 9 X 12" Oil
I haven’t posted much as I have been on vacation at our house in Connecticut and in a rental at Cape Cod. I haven’t missed being in Dallas as it is over 100 degrees every day! Here it is in the 60s at night and 70s or 80s during the day. The scene above was right after a light rain on the Cape in the backyard of our rental house. It had a gorgeous garden, lilacs, lilies, roses and more.
"Peony Bud" by Ann McCann 9 X 12" Watercolor
The peonies are blooming in Connecticut!
"Anniversary Peonies" by Ann McCann 9 X 12" Watercolor
A friend of mine can actually grow peonies in Dallas, Texas. This was her anniversary bouquet.
"Sugar Bowl Roses" by Ann McCann 8 X 10" Oil
Who doesn’t love a vase of roses picked fresh from the garden! Here they are in a silver sugar bowl catching the light from the open window.
"Memory of Peonies" by Ann McCann 9 X 12" Watercolor
I had a gorgeous bush of hot pink peonies in Michigan. It flourished without any intervention by me. And it smelled so wonderful.
