I am not usually a Canna lover, but they were gorgeous at the Arboretum last week. The colors of the flowers-pinks, reds, yellows- and even the leaves (eggplant!) were breathtaking. A group of us found a shady place and painted there all day.
I was plein air painting with the Outdoor Painters Society at the Dallas Arboretum when I saw this planter of pink petunias. It was the end of the afternoon, and it was 95 degrees! I was so tired. I painted it very quickly and like the results.
This pink peony stands in a lovely water bottle. The gold of the paper peeks out throughout the painting, especially the deckle edge. It can be framed just like a watercolor.
I love painting roses in watercolor. Everyone is different if you let the water do what it wants.
This is my neighbor’s front yard, and it is so welcoming. She is wonderful gardener. She does the work, and we can all enjoy it!

A Monarch butterfly is regularly visiting my garden these days, so I decided to paint her. She seems to love my pink coneflowers. I get it!
This was sold to a collector in Corsicana who saw my work at a show last summer. This was one that my family had difficulty parting with as it a favorite.

I felt a rush of delight while I was painting these pink coneflowers and purple salvia. The painting just flowed for me. I look forward to painting my cone flowers (Echinacea) for the next month!
This type of stairway is characteristic of my 1920s neighborhood in East Dallas. A neighbor has planted a wildflower garden around her stairway, pink primroses and some type of yellow daisy.
Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
My painting “French Lavender Abbey” is featured in the lower left hand corner of the ad from the Dutch Art Gallery Spring 21 Show. The show opens June 5. Stay tuned as to whether there will be an onsite opening.
My painting of wisteria (20 X 20” oil) was accepted into the spring show of the Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas. The challenge was to paint with only three colors and white, in this case magenta, transparent yellow and Caribbean blue. This show opens on June 5, 2021.
